Dinghy in lifeboat rescue drama
LIFEBOAT crews were scrambled after the engine of an inflatable dinghy caught fire at sea.
The 12ft Humber vessel was close to the Steetley Pier, around half a mile off the coast of Hartlepool, when it got into difficulty.
Hartlepool RNLI's inshore lifeboat and all-weather boat were launched and towed the vessel, the Aquanaut, into Hartlepool Marina.
A spokesman for the Coastguard said: "We received a mayday call from the Aquanaut after the engine had caught fire, just off the Steetley Pier.
"We sent the inshore lifeboat and all-weather lifeboat from Hartlepool RNLI and they towed the vessel back to the marina.
"It looked like the engine had overheated but the man had managed to put the fire out before we had arrived."
Two people were on board but neither were injured during the incident which happened at around 9.20am on Saturday.
