Dog scare leash warning

A DAD has called for dog owners to keep their pets on leads after his son was left injured in a park.

Little Syed Sakib was playing on Lynnfield School field, off Grosvenor Street, Hartlepool, with his dad and older brother, when two dogs off the leash bounded towards him.

His father Syed Saifurrahman claims the dogs jumped up at Sakib and his six-year-old brother Syed Siam, and he shouted at the animals to get off.

Sakib fell from his bike and hit his face on a fence, splitting open his nose.

Saifurrahman claims the owner of the two dogs showed no care for what had happened to his little boy - and even scolded him for shouting at the pets.

Saifurrahman, 30, who works at Seaton Tandoori, on The Front, said: "The two dogs had come towards my son and jumped up at him and scratched him.

"I was saying 'they are scared of dogs, they are scared of dogs, take them away'. My son was so scared that he fell from his bike and cut open his nose on a fence."

He added: "The man said 'why are you shouting at my dogs' and then just walked away and didn't care what had happened to my son."

Bangladeshi-born Saifurrahman called his wife Syeda Khatun, 27 – who was at their home in the Grange Road area of town with their baby daughter Syeda Tajri – and she telephoned for an ambulance.

Sakib was taken to the University Hospital of Hartlepool where doctors used small plaster strips to nip together the nasty cut on his nose.

Khatun, a full-time mum, said: "Sakib was so shocked and didn't know how to react but my older son was crying for hours and couldn't sleep that night.

He is a little older so can obviously remember fear.

"We are just angry that these animals weren't on a lead."

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said they had been informed of the incident.
