DRIVERS on the A19 were facing a double set of delays during the morning rush hour.
Queues stretching from the Tees flyover back to the A689 were being reported in the south of the area.
It happened after a vehicle broke down on the A19 southbound carriageway.
It led to queueing traffic between the Portrack Interchange and the A66 junction and was still causing problems shortly after 9am.
Further north, there were reports of delays on the A19, and roads leading to it in the Houghton-le-Spring and Sunderland areas, after a two-vehicle accident closed the eastbound A690 heading towards the Herrington interchange.
Motorists jammed side roads as they looked for alternative routes to escape the tailback.
The incident affected traffic on the A19 northbound in Sunderland, between the B1404 Seaton Lane junction and Herrington interchange, although vehicles were moving freely at 9am.
