Driver taken to hospital after A19 crash on outskirts of Hartlepool

A VAN driver was taken to hospital after becoming trapped following a two vehicle crash on the outskirts of Hartlepool.

The incident involving two vans happened shortly before 5pm on Wednesday on the A19 southbound near Dalton Piercy.

Two fire engines and one from Stockton were called to the scene.

The driver of one van had to be carefully freed on a board by firefighters and was taken to hospital for checks.

One lane of the A19 north and southbound were closed while the brigade worked at the scene and made the vehicles safe.

The road reopened at around 6.20pm.
