Drug woman fined

A WOMAN has appeared in court after police discovered drugs in one of her socks.

Paula Harman was stopped by police and arrested in connection with another matter.

The 38-year-old was taken to Hartlepool Police Station where a small plastic wrap in one of her socks was discovered containing five blue diazepam tablets.

Prosecuting, Joanne Hesse told Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court that Harman admitted possession of the drugs and said they were not prescribed.

“She said she had bought them for her own use to help with her medical conditions,” said Mrs Hesse.

Harman pleaded guilty to possession of the class C drugs on November 12 last year.

Mitigating, John Relton said his client had been dealing with a tragedy in her personal life.

Chairman of the magistrates’ bench Kate Brown sentenced Harman, of Oxford Road, Hartlepool, to a six-month conditional discharge, ordered her to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
