EastEnder star Larry's town jobhunt

A SOAP star swapped his life of fame and fortune for a taste of life on benefits in Hartlepool on TV.

Former EastEnders star Larry Lamb, featured in Famous, Rich and Jobless last night as one of four celebrities given the task of living for four days on 39 a week JobSeekers Allowance.

Larry's "home" for his spell in Hartlepool was in Carr Street, in the Hart Lane area, and footage showed him enjoying a walk on the beach at Seaton Carew as well as meeting shoppers in the town's Asda store.

Hartlepool was one of four locations chosen by BBC producers because of high unemployment rates, though while the other celebrities – Meg Mathews, Diarmuid Gavin and Emma Parker-Bowles – all successfully found work, Larry's job-hunting was minimal.

At one point he was rapped by the production team for failing to get out and find work, to which he replied: "I know sooner rather than later I'm going to get a job, no problem at all."

Part two is on BBC1 at 9pm tonight.
