RISING star Elena Larkin is just a few clicks away from one of the biggest breaks of her singing career.
The 15-year-old English Martyrs School pupil entered a competition to become the opening act at the Glasgow leg of Australian popstar Cody Simpson’s world tour.
She had to send off copies of herself singing one of his tracks and also one of her own songs and he emailed her earlier this week to say she is through to the next round and down to the final three artists.
Now, footage of Elena singing has been put onto website You Tube and every hit she receives will count as a vote.
If she gets the most votes then she will get a half-hour slot to open Cody’s Glasgow leg of his tour at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on February 19.
So her family are urging Mail readers to get behind the town teenager to view her You Tube video so she can do Hartlepool, and herself, proud by winning.
Her proud dad Steve Larkin, 49, a welding inspector, of Ryehill Gardens, Hartlepool, said: “Elena entered a competition to open up the Glasgow show for the major star Cody Simpson.
“Other contestants have picked other legs of the tour such as at London or Manchester, but Elena chose Glasgow.
“She had to send in a song of Cody’s called Wish You Were Here, and an acoustic version of one of her own songs, so she chose Introducing Me.
“He emailed her on Monday and said she was through to the next round and was one of three in the running.
“Cody Simpson’s team have now put the contestants on You Tube and basically the more downloads and comments she gets the better chance she has of winning.
“The closing date for votes is February 11 and that’s when Cody basically chooses the winner.”
Steve, who is married to Elena’s mum Sandra, added: “She has a real good chance of winning and she’s buzzing. If she wins it will be a really good stepping stone for her and it will enhance her profile.
“It would be a break for any young artist and it would be lovely if it could be Elena.”
Elena – who is a self taught guitar and keyboard player – is no stranger to the world of showbiz and seems to be steadily making a name for herself in the music business.
She went down to the world-famous Abbey Road studios to record some songs for producers in the summer, and at Christmas won a Rising Star Award from Atlantic Records and Island Records, who have artists such as Jessie J and The Wanted on their books.
