TWO people were taken to hospital after a two-car collision on a busy road out of Hartlepool.

Two ambulances and a rapid response paramedic car were sent to the A179, on the A19 flyover, to deal with the incident around 6pm on Tuesday.

Two people from the vehicles were taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, but their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

Traffic was backed up on the road out of Hartlepool, while the road into town from Wingate was blocked by police and ambulances, though vehicles heading into Hartlepool via the sliproad from the A19 southbound were not affected.

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) said: “We were called to a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A19 flyover leading to the A19 northbound at 6.02pm.
“We transported two patients to North Tees hospital with minor injuries.”
