YOUTH group members will be out in force tomorrow at an event to boost a charity appeal supporting local causes.
The Central Correctors is one of seven town youth groups supported by Hartlepool Borough Council chairman Stephen Akers-Belcher, who has already raked in around £19,000.
All of the groups will benefit from a jumble sale being held at Phoenix Centre, in Hindpool Close, where the Central Correctors meet every week.
The event, which is taking place tomorrow from noon-3pm, will also include face painting, nail art, and a tombola.
Charlene Twidale, Central Correctors group leader, said: “We are very grateful to Councillor Akers-Belcher for choosing us as one of his charities to support this year.
“The kids wanted to organise an event to raise money for all of the youth groups so we will hand every penny raised over to Councillor Akers-Belcher to go in the pot.”
The event is one of three taking place tomorrow boosting the chairman’s charities.
A table-top sale will also be held at Catcote Road shops, organised by another one of the groups to benefit, the Rifty Youth Project with the help of Councillor Paul Beck and his wife, Mary.
The sale, from 9.30am-3pm, will also give people the chance to buy raffle tickets to win a cash prize and the famous James Brown dancing doll, donated by Jeff Stelling.
Raffle tickets will also be available at an event at Middleton Grange Shopping Centre from 9am-5.30pm.
Tickets are just £1 and put punters in with a chance of winning the doll, which has been handed back to Coun Akers-Belcher by local businessman Jon Whitfield who bought it on auction for £1,000, and a £500 cash prize.
The limited edition Chair-Bear pin badges, the teddy mascot of Coun Akers-Belcher’s appeal, will also be available at all three events for £1 each.
All proceeds at the events will go to the Belle Vue Youth Project, Central Correctors, Hartlepool Young Carers, Nurturing Young People’s Development, the Phoenix Funsters, the Rifty Youth Project and the Wharton Annexe.
Coun Akers-Belcher said: “I’m really looking forward to the events, it’s a great opportunity to boost the charity funds.
“Hopefully we will get a great turn out at all three events.”
The Central Correctors meet at the Phoenix Centre on a Tuesday from 5pm-6.30pm for five-eight year olds who live on the Central Estate and from 7pm-9pm for those aged nine and over from all around the town. The older age group also meet on a Friday from 5pm-8pm.
