Exercise sessions aimed at women

WOMEN of all ages are being urged to get fit this autumn, with free sport and exercise sessions.

Street gym and self-defence are among the programmes which will be available, starting this weekend.

The activities are being run by the Women's Begin 2 Programme, which is organised by Hartlepool Council's Sports Development Team, and funded by the Primary Care Trust and Sport England.

The fun will be on offer in different areas of Hartlepool, such as street gym, starting on Saturday, in Ward Jackson Park, self defence, starting on Monday, September 13, at Owton Manor Primary School,

Eskdale Road, and netball, starting on Monday, September 20 and Wednesday, September 22, at Mill House Leisure Centre, Raby Road.

Rebecca Smith, the Council's assistant sports development officer, said: "This is a great way for women of all ages to have a go at a new sport or fitness activity in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere with lots of encouragement from qualified trainers.

"Our previous courses have all been a great success and have given lots of women the confidence to get more involved in sport for leisure or fitness."
