Fairground attraction boosts charity fund
A FUNERAL director pledging his support for a cancer charity was music to the ears of the organisation's founders.
A fairground organ was parked outside Tesco, off Stockton Road, in Hartlepool, in a bid to raise money for the Pansies Breast Cancer Support Fund.
The Dignity Charity Organ was provided by Mason and Martin Funeral Services, from Hartlepool, with the hope that passing shoppers would generously donate change to help cancer victims.
The York Road-based funeral service is donating all the proceeds of its charity work this year to the Pansies.
Isobel Wilson, founder of the charity, said: "We have had a great time with the music and are delighted that Mason and Martin are doing this for us.
"The fact that they are doing things all year for us is a great and unexpected boost for ourselves."
Before the organ fundraiser, the funeral service had already raised 300 for the Pansies.
Funeral director Gerald Martin said: "All fundraising events this year will see money going to the Pansies, including the organ appeal at Tesco.
"Every year we choose a worthy charity, last year was Hartlepool and District Hospice, and try and help them as much as we can."
