THE number of people out of work and claiming jobseeker’s allowance in Hartlepool fell by 144 last month.
In total, 3,422 people claimed the benefit in April compared to 3,566 the previous month.
It means 5.9 per cent of Hartlepool residents are claimants, still above the regional and national average.
The number of jobseeker’s allowance claimants also dropped in Easington, Sedgefield and Stockton North last month.
Figures released today show 2,248 people claimed the benefit in Easington last month, a drop of 107 from March.
There were 1,748 claimants in Sedgefield last month, compared to 1,873 in March while in the Stockton North constituency, which covers Billingham and Wolviston and parts of Wynyard, 3,160 people claimed jobseeker’s allowance, a drop of 163.
