Four deliberate fires within hours

FIREFIGHTERS were called to four deliberate blazes within hours of each other.

A crew from Stranton Fire Station, in Hartlepool, was called to two fires within an hour at the town's Tees Bay Retail Park.

The first was a 60 sq ft patch of grass alight on land near the beck, which is close to the Halfords store at 2.50pm.

Firefighters spent 10 minutes at the scene, but had to return to the site just before 4pm when 120 sq ft of grass was alight.

Firefighters in Peterlee were also called to two fires within an hour in Easington Colliery.

The first was at 6.50pm when they were sent to a report of rubbish on fire in a clearing in trees at the bottom of Corbett Street, Easington Colliery.

They spent 15 minutes at the scene before returning to the station, but minutes later were called to Anthony Street, also in Easington Colliery, where a sofa had been set on fire in the back yard of an empty house, which a resident had managed to put out with water.
