IT’S not every day that a top US actor walks in to your chip shop.
Well apparently it’s twice a year in the case of Verrills Fish Shop, on Hartlepool’s Headland.
For that’s how often Frasier and Cheers star Kelsey Grammer visits for his top grub.
The actor called into Verrills on Friday lunchtime and ordered fish and chips before gladly posing for this photograph with staff member Kelly Marriott.
The star is married to Hartlepool woman Kayte Walsh, air hostess and daughter of former Pools player Alan, and he was enjoying a stroll on the Headland with her.
Verrills manager Neil Peckett told the Mail: “He has been in a few times now, it’s whenever he’s over this way.
“He comes about twice a year.
“He had a chat with the lasses and posed for photographs.
“He came back in for salt and vinegar for his fish and chips.”
Neil added: “The first time he came in, one of the lasses said ‘I’m sure that’s Kelsey Grammer’, and when he started to speak we knew it was.
“This time, as soon as we looked, we recognised him, some of the staff said, ‘come here, have a look’.
He said he regarded Kelsey as just like any other customer, adding: “He’s just like everybody else.”
Neil added that a couple of customers also said they had seen Kelsey on the sea front.
Staff took this picture and posted it on Facebook as a memento of their star visit.
Dr Frasier Crane started out as a character in popular American pub-based sitcom Cheers.
He was given his own spin-off show Frasier in the early 1990s, with the memorable “tossed salad and scrambled eggs” theme tune, where we learned more about the neurotic psychiatrist.
