Freemasons' 'favourite' Borough Hall
FREEMASONS from across the region gathered in Hartlepool on Saturday for an annual grand lodge meeting.
Eight hundred members from across County Durham filled the Borough Hall at Hartlepool's Headland for the occasion.
The day was an opportunity to discuss formal and administrative business including the appointment of area leaders for the next year.
Members of Masonic lodges from all over County Durham were invited to attend.Previous annual meetings have topped 1,000 members.
William Watson from Fir Tree, County Durham, was appointed provincial senior warden while Stephen Willis, from Chester-le-Street, was appointed junior provincial warden.And longest serving mason, Randle
Oliver, from Sunderland, received a certificate of service to freemasonry.
Durham area spokesman John Watts said: "We had a good day.
"The Borough Hall is a favourite place for us and we have used it several times before."
Afterwards 450 of the Freemasons enjoyed a meal at the Mayfair Centre, in Seaton Carew.
