Freezing fog hits Hartlepool and East Durham

General view at Summerhill.

General view at Summerhill.

HARTLEPOOL and East Durham was under a veil of freezing fog this morning.

Temperatures were as low as -8C as the sun rose over the coast and are not expected to get about freezing for the rest of the day.

Traffic was moving slowly due to the ice and there were reports of minor accidents on the A19.

Forecasters are predicting a bright but bitterly cold day before the cold snap strikes again on Friday, with the Met Office warning of more snow that will disrupt roads and services.

Hartlepool United bosses will need as much help as they can get from supporters to help clear snow from the stands and surrounding areas ahead of a vital game this weekend.

Pools are due to take on Colchester United in a League One fixture at Victoria Park this Saturday, January 19, but wintry weather means there is already around three inches of snow on the pitch and surrounding areas at the ground.

Any fans who can help are asked to report to the main reception at Victoria Park any time during office hours between now and Saturday, bringing their own snow shovel if possible.
