Fundraising in aid of Pakistan flood victims

A FUNDRAISING drive is underway in Hartlepool to help families struck by flooding in Pakistan.

Youngsters from Hartlepool's Ahmadiyya Muslim Association will be working together to raise money for the Pakistan Flood Disaster.

The youngsters will be collecting this weekend and all of the money collected will go to the international aid agency, Humanity First, which is working around the clock with the National Commission for

Human Development in the north-west areas of the stricken country and directly in Punjab and Sindh.

Humanity First is an International Aid Agency that provides aid and assistance to those in need – irrespective of race, religion or politics.

Tahir Selby, Imam of the Ahmadiyya Mosque, in Brougham Terrace, Hartlepool, said: "The flooding across Pakistan is now affecting over 20 million people and has already claimed 1,600 lives and over six million are in desperate need of food and have been without food for over 10 days.

"Teams of Humanity First doctors have been sent and have reported that there is a serious threat from the spread of cholera, malaria, diarrhoea and other disease.

"The situation is getting worse and with the swollen water levels and the destruction to infrastructure the scale of injuries and illness is rapidly rising.

"One of the main things that we want the money we collect to go to are the water survival boxes which are made in the UK."

Each box contains water filtration as well as essential survival kits including tools, buckets, filters, sanctuary kits, torches, towels and cutlery."
