A CHEMICAL processing firm is marking 20 years of trading with a mammoth fundraising drive to raise thousands of pounds for two local charities.

Exwold Technology, which has four sites in Hartlepool and Billingham, has set an ambitious target of raising at least £20,000 this year to be split between Hartlepool & District Hospice and Stockton-based BlindVoice UK, which helps the blind and visually-impaired.

To kick-start the campaign, both causes have been presented with an initial £500 from the company after both organisations were chosen by Exwold’s workforce to receive a boost.

Company bosses decided to help the two worthy causes instead of spending money on a big anniversary bash and are planning four major events over the year to boost the coffers of the charities.

The company’s managing director Kevin Martin presented cheques to Francis McAllister, the hospice’s director of finance, and Christine Durnion, chief executive officer of BlindVoice UK.

Mr Martin said: “We at Exwold Technology are delighted to be able to support Hartlepool and District Hospice and BlindVoice UK as we celebrate our 20th anniversary year.

“The two charities were nominated by our employees in recognition of the superb work they do in their particular fields.

“Sam Price, Exwold’s commercial director, and I have had the opportunity to visit both these organisations and find out about the work that is done and have been very impressed with what we have seen and heard.

“As we are all aware, recent years have been very difficult for all charities and as a result the good work that such organisations do has been affected.”

The hospice’s corporate Carol Sennett said: “We are absolutely delighted that the work we do for the local community has inspired Exwold and their staff to support the hospice during 2013.

“We are really looking forward to working with them and to being partners with such a high-profile Hartlepool company and we look forward to their programme of events supporting them and them supporting us.

“We would like to thank Exwold for choosing our hospice.”

Exwold Technology, which was founded by James Robson, employs 67 staff across its four sites, with premises at Tofts Farm Industrial Estate and Brenda Road in Hartlepool and two at Billingham.
