German TV Katrice plea

KATRICE Lee’s father is all set to take part in a televised reconstruction of the disappearance of his beloved daughter which will be beamed across the world.

Richie Lee, the missing girl’s dad, is to travel to Southampton on Thursday for his part in the re-run of Katrice’s disappearance for the XYZ programme, the German version of Crimewatch.

Producers from the show will meet with the 63-year-old, who believes he will be asked to speak about what he was doing on the day his toddler daughter vanished three decades ago, and his memories of the days, weeks and years afterwards.

Richie said: “I’m flying from Newcastle to Southampton to take part in the XYZ programme which is the German equivalent of Crimewatch basically. I’m doing my piece for the programme in Southampton and then the rest will be shot with Katrice’s mother and sister, Natasha and Sharon, and then it will be aired on a date that is yet to be fixed.

“The programme makers will be doing some sort of reconstruction somewhere in Germany, I’m not sure where, because the store where Katrice was taken is no longer there. It’s now a library for a college.”

The former postman, of Stockton Road, Hartlepool, said: “It’s very positive because this will push Katrice’s story out over Europe.

“It will be put on Sky channels as well so it will go around the world, and it will make people aware that Katrice is still missing and as always, I’ll always hope it will help.”

Katrice disappeared from a British Army base NAAFI store in Paderborn, Germany, where her father was serving as a sergeant major, on her second birthday, November 28, 1981. Her mother left her at the checkout with her aunt for just a moment as she went to get crisps but when she returned Katrice had gone. The family believe Katrice is still alive and was abducted.

In November last year, the Mail reported how the hunt for Katrice was shown on the BBC’s Crimewatch show, which featured interviews with Sharon and Natasha, and also broadcasted forensic images of Katrice aged six, 11, 16, 21, 28 and 33 in a bid to stir people’s memories as to whether they may have come into contact with Katrice.
