CARS were left gleaming when firefighters joined forces with bank staff to raise funds to help fire services personnel.

Eleven firefighters from White Watch at Hartlepool’s Stranton Fire Station teamed up with staff from the town’s Barclays Bank to organise a sponsored car wash at the station on Saturday.

The aim was to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity, which supports people in the fire and rescue service when they are in need.

The team spent six hours washing around 25 vehicles and received donations from grateful motorists who drove away with clean cars after the charity feat.

Crew manager Stuart Anderson said £160.50 was raised on the day and this will be matched by Barclays.

He added: “It was a good effort and everyone mucked in to do it and took turns. This was part of national charity campaign.

“I’d like to thank everyone who was involved for supporting such a worthwhile cause.”

The 11 firefighters and two Barclays’ staff set to work on the cars from 10am-4pm.

The Fire Fighters Charity helps serving fire and rescue personnel, as well as retired or redundant fire and rescue personnel, including those who have been injured or who are struggling to get back to work, as well as their families.
