KEEN golfers have got fundraising off to a tee.

The kindhearted bunch at Hartlepool Beer and Wine Company organise an annual golf day in aid of Hartlepool & District Hospice.

And since the event was launched back in 2009, the Wells Avenue-hospice is now nearly £15,000 better off.

Hospice staff expressed their “delight” at the continued support of the staff at the company and all the teams who took part.

The Princess Helena team came out on top at this year’s event which, as always, was held at Seaton Carew Golf Club.

But the real winner was the hospice, as main organiser Phil Gallagher confirmed this year’s fundraising total as £3,250.

Phil, the manager director of Hartlepool Beer and Wine Company, which is based in Usworth Road, in the town, said: “Again, it was a fantastic day.

“I would like to thank all of the teams who took part and supported the charity on the day.”

He added: “I would like to give a special mention to Mark Jones and his staff at Seaton Carew golf club for allowing us to use the course every year.

“We were delighted to raise as much as did this year.”

Carol Sennett, hospice corporate fundraiser, said: “We are delighted with the support we get from the team at the Hartlepool Beer and Wine Company.

“I know that the hospice has a special place in Phil’s heart and this is evident in the great enthusiasm and commitment he has with every event he has organised.

“The money which was raised will go directly towards patient care and caring for patients with specialist palliative care needs from the local communities of Hartlepool and East Durham.”
