A WARRANT has been issued for the arrest of two people who have been convicted of a string of animal cruelty charges, including one which led to the death of five chipmunks.
Hartlepool man Anthony Collins, 23, and Becky Carr, 19, were found guilty in their absence of six animal welfare charges after they failed to turn up to Peterlee Magistrates’ Court.
Collins, of the town’s Endrick Road, and Carr, of Whitehouse Court, Ushaw Moor, were both accused of six charges each relating to failing to properly meeting the needs of a number of animals.
The offences took place on or before August 9 last year at Ushaw Moor, near Durham City.
Both were charged with failing to ensure the need for a suitable environment for two Staffordshire bull terriers to live in, failing to ensure the bull terriers were protected from pain, suffering, injury and disease, and failing to ensure the need for a suitable environment for a ginger and white kitten to live in.
They were also charged with failing to ensure the need for a suitable diet for a brown chipmunk, failing to ensure the need for a suitable environment for three corn snakes to live in and failing to provide a nutritionally balanced diet, including water, suitable for the needs of five chipmunks, which led to their death.
Justices found the pair guilty in their absence and issued a warrant for their arrest.
