A MARTIAL arts club is going from strength to strength after celebrating its first anniversary.
The North East Tang Do Association (NETSDA) Family Martial Arts & Fitness Centre, based in Greatham Street, Hartlepool, opened its headquarters just over a year ago.
And in that time, the Academy has grown from strength to strength over the last 12 months with 16 evening classes Monday to Friday and additional classes during the day too.
Chief instructor Charlie Featherstone admitted that it was a huge financial gamble for him and his wife Diane, who manages the centre, to quit their full-time jobs but has no regrets a year down the line.
Charlie said: “When I look back now, it was the best decision we ever made.
“The centre has allowed students and parents to have a permanent safe and secure environment for which they can come along and be part of something very special.”
The centre provides professional tuition in the Korean art of Tang Soo Do, with three specific groups, ranging from Tiger Tots aged three and four, Little Tigers who are aged from four to seven, and the family class of seven years and above.
All of the classes have proved to be extremely popular and Charlie revealed there are people waiting for spaces on some of them.
Charlie added: “We teach people of all ages regardless of ability and build self esteem and confidence.
“We are totally overwhelmed with the success of the academy over the last year with some of our classes having waiting lists.
“It has been an excellent first year since we launched in our own permanent base, and we’re looking forward to many more successful years ahead for the club and all of our members.”
