A FIRE crew spent two hours mopping up 100 litres of diesel after a delivery truck ruptured its fuel tank.

The incident happened in the distribution area of the Tesco Extra store, in Burn Road, Hartlepool, around 9.30pm on Saturday.

The articulated lorry, which was delivering milk, had caught its tank on a low lip of a gate.

One appliance attended from Stranton Fire Station and firefighters were at the scene until 11.45pm using environmental packs to contain the spillage.

A station spokeswoman said the risk was more “environmental” than dangerous and it happened away from the public area.

The crew stayed until a mechanic could arrive to remove the vehicle.
