A HARTLEPOOL man has been rescued from the sea in the early hours of this morning after slipping on a rock.
The 25-year-old man was rescued by volunteer lifeboat crew members in Browns Bay in Cullercoats, North Tyneside at around 6am today.
He was taken to North Tyneside General Hospital suffering from hypothermia.
Coastguard members and Cullercoats RNLI Inshore Lifeboat were called after a member of the public had spotted the stricken man about 750ft from the coast. An RAF helicopter was also called to help with the search but it was RNLI volunteers that rescued the town resident from the sea.
A spokesman for the Coastguard said: “The coastguard and RNLI inshore lifeboat was called to Browns Bay in Cullercoats at 6.20am after reports of someone in the sea.
“The RAF helicopter was also called but it was the inshore lifeboat that carried out the rescue.”
