Foggy Furze Quilters and Embroiderers displayed their quilts at the group’s Patchwork and Embroidery Exhibition back in May to raise over £1,760 for the hospice.

The event at Seaton Carew’s Marine Hotel was a huge success, attracting hundreds of visitors from around the region.

The display which featured over two hundred items, including fifty quilts, also gave visitors the chance to take part in a tombola and a raffle for a handmade quilt which had taken over eight months to complete.

Staff at Hartlepool and District Hospice, based on Wells Avenue in Hartlepool, were thrilled to receive the donation, which will go towards their commitment to providing care and support for patients and families with life-limiting illnesses.

Janice Forbes, community fundraiser at the hospice, added: “The Foggy Furze Quilters and Embroiderers are a lovely bunch of ladies and it was a pleasure to go to the exhibition to see their wonderful handy work.

“I would also like to say a huge thank you on behalf of everyone at the Hospice for choosing to support our charity.

“The hospice provides support for patients and their families where they need it and when they need it most.

“It is the ongoing support of our local communities that ensure we can continue to provide these vital patient care services into the future.”

The group, which has thirty members, meets every Monday at Seaton Carew Social Club.

They hold an exhibition every two years, with a nominated charity each time and this year the group voted unanimously voted to support the hospice.

Lorna Scott, from the group, said they were delighted to have raised so much money for a cause close to their hearts.

She said: “We were thrilled with the number of people who came to the exhibition and the lady who won the quilt was delighted.”
