School celebrates award
Eskdale Academy on Eskdale Road, has been awarded with an ‘EQualities Award’ for the way it celebrates diversity and its commitment to providing equal opportunities.
The award was developed in response to the Equality Act 2010, which places responsibility on public bodies, such as schools to eliminate discrimination, advance its equal opportunities and foster good relations.

The school will now receive an e-portfolio and a wall plaque to recognise their achievement.
Head Elizabeth Killeen said she was delighted with the award which she put down as a testament to the hard work of staff and students. She: “We worked on the award for a year gathering evidence into four categories: commitment to equality, narrowing the gap, fostering good relations, equality of opportunity, positive action and celebrating diversity.
“This included safeguarding, personal development, behaviour and welfare and closing gaps in progress and attainment.
