HUNDREDS of shoppers and staff had to evacuate a shopping centre due to a false alarm.
A fire alarm started to sound in Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, in Hartlepool, at around 1.30pm on Friday and emergency procedures were put into place as a precaution.
Two fire engines from Stranton Fire Station attended the complex and checked the centre was safe before customers and staff were allowed back inside.
A spokesman for Cleveland Fire Brigade said: “We attended Middleton Grange Shopping Centre for an automatic fire alarm. It turned out that it was a false alarm and we left.”
