Hartlepool students delighted with exam success
Among the top performers this year was English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College pupil Poppy Stuart, whose A* and three A grades secured her place at Oxford University.
The 18-year-old from Hesleden was over the moon with her results after a sleepless night spent worrying about her future.

Hide AdShe achieved A’s in maths, English and French and an A* in general studies.
“I am so shocked and elated,” she said.
“I was really worried and couldn’t sleep last night! My parents were with me when I opened the results and we were all crying.
“I had to go through a five day interview to get into Oxford and hope to become a fiction writer or a journalist.
“I am so happy to have these results, as it has been a really tough year and I worked really hard to get them.”

Hide AdThis year 55% of English Martyrs students achieved grades at A*, A or B and 82% of students achieved grades A* to C, surpassing last year’s impressive results.
Director of the sixth form Colette Hogarth said: “I am so pleased with the results these fantastic students have achieved.
“They reflect the hard work, effort and commitment put in by students and staff. An overall pass rate of 100% is excellent.”
Hartlepool Sixth Form College had a similar success story, with students and staff celebrating their best ever results. The overall A Level pass rate was 98.5% and the vocational pass rate was 97%.

Hide AdPrincipal Mo Bunter said: “I am so proud of our students and the amazing teaching team at the college who have worked so hard together to achieve outstanding results.”
A high achieving student was Matthew Day, 18, from the Headland who achieved two A* grades in maths and further maths and A in computing. He will study maths at Durham University.
He said: “I was not expecting these results at all but I did put loads of work in.”
While Victoria Murray, 18, from West Park achieved A’s in English Language and French and an A* and RE. She will study French and Chinese in Edinburgh. She said: “I was a bit anxious about the results but I am so happy now.”
