HARTLEPOOL United fans have plenty to look forward after the fixtures for the new 2014-15 campaign were officially released - with the season starting with a trip to Sky Bet League Two new boys Stevenage.

Colin Cooper’s side will travel to Broadhall Way on Saturday, August 9, with the first home match at Victoria Park coming the following week against Bury on Saturday, August 16.

A busy opening month also sees a home match againt Dagenham & Redbridge and away days to AFC Wimbledon and Cheltenham Town.

Fixtures that immediately catch the eye are Carlisle United away on the final day of the season, where no doubt the Cumbrian city will be awash with fancy-dress clad Poolies.

The last away day of the season is famous for Pools fans turning out in force and in recent years the theme has included Thunderbirds, penguins and Smurfs.

Other derby fixtures to put in your diary include Carlisle at home on Saturday, October 4, York City at home on Saturday, November 22 with a visit to the Minstermen on Saturday, April 11.

The festive period will see Pools host Oxford United on December 20 before the Boxing Day trip to Mansfield Town on December 26 and Morecambe at home on Sunday, December 28.

There is no New Year’s Day fixture for Pools, instead they travel to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, January 3.

Meanwhile, the final home game of the season will see Pools host Exeter City - for the second successive year - before that trip to Carlisle United on May 2.

As ever, devoted Hartlepool United fans are gearing up for another mammoth season on the roads following their beloved team – almost 10,000 gruelling miles in fact.

The longest trek for Pools fans is a trip down to Plymouth Argyle, some 387.2 miles away from Victoria Park.

While the overall mileage for round trips has dipped by around 30 miles compared to last season, fans are still facing a round trip of 9,695 miles in 2014-15 if they want to see every game.

Plenty to look forward to then over the coming months and the Hartlepool Mail will be there every step of the way with full coverage on www.hartlepoolmail.co.uk via the Mail’s Facebook page or on Twitter via @HPoolMail
