Having a ball in bridge bungee

AN ENTERPRISING fundraiser is preparing to bungee jump from a famous bridge dressed as a football – and she is urging others to join her.

Hartlepool woman Katy Tindale will be jumping from the Transporter Bridge, in Middlesbrough – dressed head to toe in a sponge football.

The 22-year-old, from Greatham, decided to take the plunge to help raise money for Sport Relief.

Katy works for the Make Your Mark Campaign, which encourages youngsters in the Tees Valley area to be enterprising.

The communications co-ordinator said: "The campaign is working with youngsters in the region to encourage them to be enterprising by raising money for Sport Relief through football-themed initiatives.

"I could hardly ask other people to raise money and not get involved myself, so I thought I'd bungee jump from the bridge.

"I'm just trying to encourage other people to take part so we can raise as much money as possible."

Katy, who will be jumping this Sunday, March 16, at 9.30am, enlisted the help of a friend studying at the Cleveland College of Art to make the costume.

Katy said: "The costume is really light and hopefully it shouldn't hinder me at all – I may even keep it as a memento.

"I have never done anything like this in my life before and I think people are often put off because they think it takes a lot of planning, but it really doesn't.

"The Sport Relief scheme makes me realise how lucky we are in this country and I think everybody should try and be a part of it to help those less fortunate."

The Make Your Mark Campaign helps creative youngsters achieve their dreams and they have a flagship enterprise week every November.

Sport Relief, which takes place across the weekend, encourages people to raise money by holding sponsored sporting events.

All the money raised from the weekend is given to Children in Need to help vulnerable people living in the United Kingdom and abroad.
