Health Awards: Ellie's favourite is her angel
THE Hartlepool Mail Best of Health Awards is capturing the imagination of young and old alike – including little seven-year-old Ellie Short.
The young asthma sufferer has nominated caring nurse Stephanie Hogg for her dedication and devotion to her job.
Ellie's only known her for a few months, but is already in love with her!
Ellie, a Jesmond Road Primary School pupil, who lives in the Park Road area of Hartlepool, wrote to the Mail to tell us how Stephanie, who works for IntraHealth, at Hartfields Medical Practice, Hartfields Retirement Village, treats her like a "grown-up".
Ellie's mum Rachel Short, 33, who lives with partner Ian Lowry, 36, Ellie, and sisters Sophie, 12 and Amy, 11, said: "She really does think the world of Stephanie and the friendly, caring and down-to-earth way she helps young patients. She treats her like an adult.
"She really wants to see Stephanie win an award so that everybody else will know how good she really is."
IntraHealth is a locally-based company which works exclusively with the NHS to provide GP services nationally and the surgery at Hartfields Medical Practice is available to anyone living in Hartlepool.
Intrahealth medical director Dr David Anderson said: "Just to be nominated is wonderful news and I am delighted for Stephanie.
"Our surgeries in Hartfields and Wynyard Road are proving to be very popular with patients from all across town and this nomination adds weight to our determination to offer the best possible service for all.
"I know that the team are delighted"
Ellie's story, which we have printed in her own words below, shows just how the awards are reaching people of all ages.
We recently highlighted 84-year-old Honor Snowdon who nominated her dentist Ray Lambert who she said was "amazing".
Mr Lambert, of the Lambert and Coutts dental practice, in Grange Road, Hartlepool, is one of dozens of health professionals who have been nominated for an award.
