Helping births go smoother
THE very latest in pain relief methods are available at the new birthing centre.
Along with modern equipment and medicine, mothers-to-be can use plastic balls, soft mats and specially designed chairs.
They can all be found in the suites to offer mothers a wide range of delivery positions that can help a birth go smoother.

A pool room with a large bath, dimmed lights and music system also offers a relaxed alternative to a bed.
Judith Stout, birthing centre manager, said: "We try and encourage alternative methods of giving birth such as the use of water.
"These techniques are becoming more and more popular as people try and get away from the usual bed delivery that may not suit everyone.
"It can be good to get mothers moving around in labour and trying different things that may suit them better.
"These different techniques and positions can speed things up and give pain relief while helping the relationship between mother and child get off to the best of starts."
