Holiday cash warning
WITH the holiday season drawing to a close The Co-operative Travel has warned Hartlepool holidaymakers to find alternatives when using their cash and credit cards abroad because of the high bank charges.
They fear that families making the most of the disappearing summer before the schools go back could be forking out mone needlessly.
Financial experts at the Co-Operative Travel say many customers are unaware of how high bank charges are when using their cards abroad.
Damian Kellegher, regional manager for the North-East, said: "A recent study by Which? shows the extent of the bank charges travellers can face.
"For a family drawing out typical living expenses over a two week holiday, the charges can amount to as much as 95."
Mr Kellegher says that these charges are completely avoidable and advises people who are planning a holiday to check their bank levies and shop around for the best deals.
He also suggests getting a 'cash passport' card, which gives the convenience of using plastic, but without the charges.
"There are no fees for the passport or when using it in shops, restaurants and bars, and there's only a small charge when it's used at an ATM machine."
