Holiday homes plan for farm
PLANS to create two fishing ponds and six holiday chalets on farmland are due to be discussed by councillors tomorrow.
Hartlepool Borough Council's planning committee will discuss the proposals for land at Abbey Hill Farm, in Dalton Piercy, on the outskirts of town.
The application site includes a field used for horse grazing and is part of a larger holding of 19 acres at Petersbrooke Stables, which is an established equestrian centre.
The owners have submitted plans to create two new fishing ponds, six holiday chalets, a reception building and an access road.
The single storey two-bedroom chalets will include a toilet and shower, living room and kitchen, and have timber external walls and a tiled roof.
The reception building would include a toilet changing area, a shower and a sauna.
The two lakes will measure 150ft by 72ft and 120ft by 60ft and will be located on the eastern side of the field.
One of them would have a wetland area for wildlife and there would be disabled access for fisherman around the lakes.
A report to the meeting said: "Planning permission is sought for the formation of two fishing ponds, the erection of six holiday chalets, a reception building associated works and access road.
"The access to the site will be taken via the existing access in the north west corner of the site and along an existing track which runs along the western boundary of the site.
"This will lead to a parking area for 20 vehicles and the reception building which will be formed on an area of existing hard standing located at the southern end of the site."
Surface water from the chalets will pass into the lakes and foul water would pass to a sewage treatment tank.
Ahead of the meeting, the plans have been publicised and council planners received two letters of no objection and one letter of support from the owner of a nearby caravan site.
The letter said it would bring people into the area which would benefit nearby businesses and that there is a demand for more fishing lakes in Hartlepool.
Cleveland Police had no objections provided there is on-site security, lighting and good quality windows and doors.
Dalton Piercy Parish Council has not objected to the plans, but called for the planning committee to put restrictions on the proposals so the chalets are not used as permanent homes.
The council's traffic department had no objections and they considered 20 parking spaces to be enough for the fishing lakes and chalets.
The planning committee is due to meet in the Council Chamber, in Victoria Road, at 10am.
