Horrific glass attack on model

THESE are the horrific scars suffered by a model after a brutal glass attack at the hands of a young mum.

Cara Robinson, 27, needed 30 stitches and plastic surgery to her face after thug Rachel Bailey plunged a glass into her cheek in a Hartlepool pub.

Bailey was found guilty of wounding with intent after a three-day trial at Teesside Court, and has been warned she is facing jail when she returns for sentencing next month.

The jury of eight men and four women took just two hours to unanimously find Bailey guilty.

Judge Peter Fox put sentencing on hold so background reports can be done and she can make arrangements for her baby daughter.

Judge Fox said: "The jury have found you guilty and as your counsel will no doubt have advised you, you must face a prison sentence for this."

Cara, who has been too scared to go out since Bailey's attack in The Showroom on September 19 last year, has since moved away from Hartlepool and is trying to rebuild her life in Essex.

Speaking from her family home in Seaton Carew, she said: "I am pleased it is over, but it didn't have to go this far.

"She should have admitted what she did from the start and pleaded for some sort of leniency then she may not have been looking at as harsh a sentence.

"It was upsetting to go through a trial because it brought it all back, and also for my family because they had to hear all the evidence and watch CCTV footage of what happened.

"All I wanted was for her to admit she had used a glass, but instead she blamed it on a ring, and even said I'd attacked her.

"When I heard the lies in court I hated her, but now I feel a bit of pity that it has come to this.

"People say I'm wrong to think like that, and ask me if she felt any pity for me when she left me scarred for life?"

Cara has vivid memories of the attack, which happened on a night out with family and friends.

The former Hartlepool Sixth Form College student who is now a graphic designer added: "She pushed me in the back, I turned around to see what was going on, and I felt the glass on my cheek.

"I felt the blood on my face. I saw the reaction of people, and knew it must have been bad.

"I went to the hospital in Hartlepool, and then to James Cook where I had the plastic surgery on the Sunday night.

"I've been back and forwards to the specialists and I've had a second operation where they cut out my scars and stitched me up again.

"It has changed my life, there's no doubt about that.

"When I got back to work, I kept breaking down. I was wary going out, aware that people were looking at me.

"I had the scars on my face on my wedding day.

"I used to get the chance to do some modelling work. I was signed up to an agency in Newcastle, but I can't do that now.

"I wouldn't dare go out. I wouldn't even go into Hartlepool during the day because I was wary of who I bumped into.

"Now I'm married and living down in Essex, so it is a case of starting a new life for me to be honest and trying to get away from all this.

"I would encourage every pub to use plastic glasses to stop this happening to someone else, because I wouldn't wish this on anyone."

Bailey will be returning to court to be sentenced on August 20.
