HOUSING chiefs are celebrating after being awarded a prestigious status they first earned three years ago – when they were the first to do so.

East Durham Homes (EDH) has been awarded TPAS (Tenant Participation Advisory Service) re-accreditation for its work concerning resident involvement.

In 2009 the housing provider was the first in the region to gain the accreditation.

Now three years on, EDH is celebrating again after making further improvements to the way it involves and empowers its tenants to shape services.

TPAS carried out observations and interviews with tenants, staff and EDH board directors to put together the final report – highlighting many examples of good practice and innovation in tenant involvement.

In particular TPAS recognised EDH’s Customer Inspection and Improvement Panel (CIIP), its commitment to equality and diversity and the work of the Housing Partnership.

TPAS’s chief executive Michelle Reid, who presented the award, said: “East Durham Homes is a shining example of partnership working between landlord and tenant and the achievements are noticeable and commendable.

“We’re really impressed with the big improvements we’ve witnessed since the original accreditation, the progress is very pleasing.”

EDH’s interim chief executive, Paul Mains, said: “It’s really important to us as a company that we keep our customers at the heart of our decision making and service provision to ensure we are delivering what people need and what.

“What’s more, we pride ourselves on the fact that customer involvement is embedded in all aspects of the business and I’m delighted that we’ve been recognised again for this.”
