I caught a UFO on camera

A DAD believes he captured a UFO on camcorder after a dark object with an orange glow appeared in the skies above his home.

The footage shows the object apparently hovering and then shooting off before hovering again.

Paul Simpson, 28, captured what he thinks is a space craft of some description after spotting the unusual-looking sphere in the sky.

He has been left astonished after he witnessed the black object above properties in the Eden Hill area of Peterlee and later discovered other people had seen it as well.

Paul was in his garden one night last month, around 9pm when he spotted the "UFO" hovering hundreds of feet in the sky.

He said it was stationary for a few seconds, before it "flew" off to another point in the sky and stayed there for a few seconds before vanishing.

Paul said: "There must be other lifeforms out there. If we are living people, I think somewhere in the universe there must be other living organisms.

"I'm convinced it's a UFO, but why it chose Peterlee I don't know."

Maintenance worker Paul, whose wife Michelle works in the canteen for P&A at TRW Automotive, in Peterlee, said: "I was having a smoke near the back door and just looking up at the sky.

"One minute there was nothing there at all and then all of a sudden this thing appeared.

"I thought 'what on Earth's that?' It wasn't a plane as you couldn't hear the engines or see a trail behind it and it wasn't a hot air balloon.

"Nothing can stop and start and go off in a different direction just like that.

"I just found it strange – I've never seen anything like that before."

Paul, who is dad to two-year-old Jasmine and stepdad to 11-year-old Ryan Spence, ran inside and got his Sony Handycam camcorder to capture the astonishing sight.

Paul, of Fairbairn Road, Peterlee, who captured 41 seconds of footage, said: "I showed my wife and she had a look but she didn't know what it was either."

Paul and his family set off on holiday to Flamingoland the next day but when he returned a week later, he was discussing the object with a neighbour, who said he had also seen it.

Paul, who is originally from Billingham, also looked on the internet and other people in Peterlee said they had also witnessed the weird sight.

He said; "I have read up on UFOs and watched documentaries on the subject but wouldn't say I have a real interest in the subject.

"The only reason I grabbed my camcorder is because we had it out to take on holiday.

"But when I saw that, I was quite amazed I had seen something.

"When I have read about it, there have been a few sightings in the area over the years."
