A TV comedy star will help a town centre venue celebrate its comedy night’s second birthday next month.

Ben Crompton, who has appeared in TV shows including Ideal, with Johnny Vegas, Cutting It, Pramface and Game of Thrones, will be at Flix Movie Cafe, in Church Square, in Hartlepool, on Friday, April 19 to mark two years since the popular Rib Ticklers comedy club started providing laughs at Flix.

Ben will be headlining a night of top entertainment that also includes comics Fran Garrity, Carl Gillespie and Anthony Young, who are regulars on Rib Ticklers’ books. Doors will open at 7pm.

Rib Ticklers promoter Nick Banks, who lives in the town centre area of Hartlepool, said: “So we are two years old.

“A big thanks must go to all the acts, and to the audiences for coming each and every month and making this a gig that people love coming to and performing at.

“We have a special treat to mark our second anniversary in the shape Ben Crompton who is sure to help the night go with a bang.

“Just like last year, to mark the special occasion, there will be birthday cake.”

Ben, 38, who is from Manchester, is also known for his role in BBC3’s Man Stroke Woman series, as well as for playing Ewan in 102 Dalmatians and has appeared in the BBC’s gritty drama Clocking Off.

Nick added: “It is a real coup for us to have Ben with us to mark what has been an absolutely brilliant two years.

“Rib Ticklers has gone from strength to strength over those two years and we are thrilled to be doing so well.”

Ben’s other credits include an early job with a German tour of Les Miserables.

On the big screen he has appeared in Mike Leigh’s heartbreaking drama All or Nothing and even featured in Hollywood film Blow Dry, which starred Josh Hartnett alongside Rachel Griffiths, Bill Nighy and Alan Rickman.

Tickets for the second anniversary bash are expected to sell out fast for the event so people are advised to book quickly.
