In footsteps of refugees
STUDENTS walked in the footsteps of refugees as part of an eye-opening project.
A multi-media exhibition recreating the journey a refugee takes from their home country to safety came to High Tunstall College of Science, in Hartlepool.
The Escape to Safety exhibition was part of the school's opening minds studies which has been looking at the issue of refugees in partnership with the Teesside One World Centre in Middlesbrough.
Teacher Lindsay Forster said: "It is very important for me that we educate our students on international matters to ensure they become good global citizens and are aware of such issues."
The school's Year 8 humanities and opening minds students will use what they have learned to create resources to share in school and across the area.
Headteacher Miriam Buhler-Willey added: "We believe in an outward facing school that encourages our young people to be fully informed and aware of social and political issues around the world.
"The multi-media exhibition has attracted visitors across Teesside.
"We are really pleased that our students are developing their global awareness in this exciting project."
High Tunstall has also teamed up with Hartlepool United Sports Foundation to help kick prejudice out of the game under the Show Racism the Red Card campaign.
