A NIGHT of boxing is the latest in a long list of events raising cash for Miles for Men and supporting those with cancer.

Tickets are already flying out of the door for a packed boxing bill at Hartlepool’s Owton Manor Social Club.

Organisers Trevor Robinson, 32, and David Lahney, 38, have set a fundraising target of around £2,000, the majority of which will go to Miles For Men, the fundraiser set up by generous Michael Day, 39, last year.

That cash will be added to that raised at various other fundraisers and the popular race in the town later this year and donated to Cancer Research UK.

A quarter of the money raised at the boxing event will also go to the Golden Flatts under seven’s team, managed by Trevor and David.

“If we raised around the £2,000 mark that would be absolutely fantastic,” said Trevor, a family resource worker and dad-of-six who lives in the Owton Manor area of Hartlepool with his wife, Claire, 32.

“To be honest, the tickets are pretty much sold out already, we have very little tickets left so it’s going to be a sell-out on the night.

“We are going to get between 250 and 300 in the club so it will be a brilliant atmosphere and a great night.”

The event is taking place at the club, in Wynyard Road, on Saturday, April 20.

A raffle will also be held on the night helping to raise funds.

Michael set up Miles for Men, the male-only charity fun run this time last year and the first event in the town raised a staggering £40,000.

Trevor, a dad of Bradley, 14, Joshua, 11, Ben, nine, Jack, six, Joseph, three and six-month-old Bobby, added: “We have organised the event in partnership with the Miles for Men team.

“The work that Micky does inspires everyone in the town.

“It’s been absolutely incredible how much he has raised so far so we wanted to show our support and help to raise even more money.”

Doors open at 6.30pm for the boxing show.

Tickets are priced at £15 each which includes pie and peas.
