Kids enjoy church summer holiday clubs

Throughout the summer holidays, churches within the Diocese of Durham opened their doors to offer families a variety of activities, with the aim of providing them with an unforgettable experience and memories to cherish for years to come.

The church holiday clubs welcomed children and families from a variety of faiths to take part in activities to promote togetherness and community cohesion.

Popular holiday clubs this summer have included St Aidan’s in Hartlepool where there will be three days of activities, Holy Trinity in Hartlepool will also hold a community event called ‘Fun in the Sun’ on August 30, 31, and September 1, as well as sessions at churches in Wingate, Wheatley Hill, Shotton Colliery and Billingham.

The Revd Fiona Collin, who coordinated the Sun said: “This initiative is something we have done for three years now. 
“It’s great to be able to invite families to events during the summer holidays to help keep children occupied by offering fun, friendship and food to our neighbours.

“Our children are excited to get up the morning to come to the holiday clubs. Being here is getting them out of the house, mixing with others and is a fun distraction from playing with their tablets and laptops.

“Through this experience we want to help families create great memories, so when children go back to school they have something exciting and interesting to share.”
