Looking back at the highlights of 30-year-old Hartlepool salon

It is certainly not a case of hair today gone tomorrow for Headland hairdresser Alison Pringle as she marks 30 years in business.

Alison has been cutting and styling customers’ hair from her Northgate salon since July 1986.

To mark the milestone, she has laid on two weeks of celebrations.

Alison, 49, said: “I just absolutely love my job. I love mixing with people.

“I think a lot of clients know more about me than I do. You see all the babies and life and strife.”

Alison launched the business in late July 1986 with a business partner after serving her apprenticeship at Hartlepool’s Binns department store.

Originally called Partners Unisex Hair Salon, it underwent a name change in 2001 when Alison’s partner moved on to be called Alison McCabe Hairdressing.

It now operates under the name of Hair@150 Northgate after its location.

Over the next two weeks Alison, who employs five staff, will treat customers to a glass of bubbly and a slice of cake, and goodies and giveaways to thank them for their support over the years.

“It is just my way of giving them a little bit of something back for being loyal,” said Alison, who lives at Bishop Cuthbert with partner Oliver Jackson.

She added: “I found it difficult to have just one day to mark the anniversary because I have clients who range back longer than 30 years to when I did my apprenticeship, and have others who come from Stockton, Middlesbrough and Billingham, so I decided to do it over a period of two weeks.

“I would love to see clients; old and new, and also staff. It would be great to see people I have worked with over the last 30 years and share some memories.”

And Alison, who has three children aged between 18 and 22, has no plans to hang up her scissors and hairbrush just yet.

She said: “The plan is to keep employing people and doing what I can for the community and town and keep people by cutting their hair.”
