Lorry bursts into flames on A19 near Dalton Piercy

MINOR delays were caused on a dual-carriageway when emergency services were called to a lorry which had set on fire.

Two fire engines, one from Stranton Fire Station and one from Stockton, rushed to the scene of the incident on the southbound carriageway of the A19 near to The Windmill pub at Dalton Piercy on the outskirts of Hartlepool.

Crews used a hose reel to put out the blaze in the heavy goods vehicle, while police officers ensured the scene was kept safe and traffic problems were kept to a minimum.

A Cleveland Fire Brigade spokesman said: “Firefighters were called to the incident at 8.43am yesterday. It was put out by 8.57am.”

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “The fire broke out in the heavy goods vehicle engine on a slip road on the southbound carriageway causing minor delays.”
