Love is in the air

ROMANTIC couples are getting creative when it comes to showing their true love.

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, Mobeus Jewellers owner Mark Lloyd is enjoying a marked increase in inquiries for custom-made engagement and wedding rings.

One man opted for an engagement ring with teddy bears on it and with “little diamonds in the eyes”, said the Hartlepool jeweller.

He added: “We also designed a paired wedding ring for a couple that had their names engraved in it, along with lyrics from the Jimi Hendrix song Little Wing because it meant so much to them.

“The commissioned designs really seem to appeal at the moment especially with younger couples.”

Mark, who has 25 years of experience in the business, said couples seem to be investing in weddings despite the economic downturn.

He said: “We all know that engagements and weddings cost money and there’s not too much of that around at the moment.

“But people can only take so much doom and gloom. We still need to have things to look forward to in our lives and while some couples may be putting off their weddings while finances are tight, others are saying, ‘to heck with it, let’s take the plunge’.

“The recession isn’t really having a bearing on people getting engaged – there hasn’t been a downturn on love.”
