Making a stand against poverty
DOZENS of people gave a helping hand in the fight against world poverty.
Hartlepool's Global Peace and Justice Group held a roadshow to recognise the good work of the Make Poverty History campaign.
The event was held at St Joseph's Parish Centre in St Paul's Road, in the town.
Part of the day's activities saw the group underlining the importance of the white band for poverty symbol by wrapping themselves in a huge white band of ribbon.
The white band is recognised as the common symbol of the global fight to end poverty.
Event organiser Chris Eddowes said the roadshow was held to show the continuing support for the Make Poverty History campaign.
Three speakers were at the event. They were debt relief campaigner Dr David Golding, education and outreach officer for the Jubilee debt campaign Kathryn Hatfield, and Hartlepool MP Iain Wright.
During the morning, those attending the roadshow took part in a special stand-up moment in preparation for a world-record attempt when thousands of people across the UK were due to try to set a record for the number of people standing up against poverty at the same time.
