A MAN has been left fighting for his life in hospital after being struck by a car in the early hours of Saturday.
The 24-year-old man suffered serious head, chest and pelvic injuries after being hit by the car in Stockton Road, in Hartlepool, at 12.30am, on Saturday, March 29.
Police and ambulance crews were called to the road and the badly injured man was taken to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough where he is said to be in a critical condition.
Stockton Road ihas been closed for several hours while police carry out investigations.
A witness appeal has also been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: “Police and Ambulance crews were called to a report of a serious road traffic collision on Stockton Road, Hartlepool at 12.30am in which a vehicle had collided with a pedestrian.
“A 24-year-old male has been taken to James Cook University Hospital with serious head, chest and pelvic injuries and he is currently in a critical condition.”
Witnesses are asked to telephone police on 101 and speak to Pc Graeme Allinson of the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit, quoting incident CVP-14-051517.
