Man injured in Hart Lane smash

A CAR passenger was taken to hospital with suspected back injuries after a crash at a busy junction.

A yellow Ford Focus taxi and a black Volkswagen Golf were involved in a collision at the traffic lights joining Hart Lane with Wiltshire Way, in Hartlepool.

The smash at noon yesterday saw the single carriageway road closed for an hour as paramedics treated a passenger in the Volkswagen Golf before the vehicles were towed away.

The injured man was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, with suspected back injuries.

Police say they are now investigating the collision.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said: "A man was put on a spinal board as a precaution and taken to hospital to be checked over.

"Inquiries into the cause of the incident are ongoing."

Witnesses or anyone with information is being asked to ring Hartlepool Police on (01642) 302126 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
