FIREFIGHTERS were called to rescue a young bowls player after he found himself locked in after hours.

A crew from Stranton Fire Station was called to Brinkburn Bowling Club, in the Burn Valley Park in Hartlepool, after a 23-year-old player got stuck inside the club.

The locks have recently been changed at the venue, but the man had an old key and couldn’t get out.

The external door was open, so firefighters were able to gain access to an inner area, and pass a screwdriver to the stricken man, who then prized open a panel of an interior window in order to get out.

The crew spent half an hour at the scene, from 8.30pm on Thursday and the man’s first word upon release was “freedom!”.
