Mayor Jim'll fix it for you
A FINANCIER is to stand in the forthcoming mayoral election with the promise that "Jim'll Fix It".
Local businessman Jim Gillespie will stand as an Independent candidate with no ties to any political party in the contest to become Mayor of Hartlepool.
The 47-year-old, who lives and works in Hartlepool, is managing director of a financial services company and also the founder and chairman of the Institute of Domestic Energy Assessors.
It is the largest representative body for energy assessors in the UK.
He is heavily involved with energy-saving initiatives and low carbon economy discussions and sits on consultation groups for both Labour and the Conservatives on energy issues at national level.
But he has no affiliation or allegiance to any political party.
Jim Gillespie said: "Tough times call for tough actions and Hartlepool therefore needs an independent mayor who is of the right calibre, with leadership skills, management skills and business acumen and not afraid to make tough decisions.
"But above all the mayor must be a true ambassador for the town. I truly believe I can fulfill this role and build upon the town's past achievements to ensure Hartlepool remains a great place to live, work and bring up a family."
He has spelled out his plans for the town, should he become mayor, on a website.
One area of the website entitled "Jim'll Fix It" spells out the list of priorities he will address, should he be elected.
The married father-of-one, who lives in the Naisberry Park area of town, said: "My pledge to the people of Hartlepool should they elect me as mayor is simply this – I promise to conduct a root and branch overhaul of all aspects of Hartlepool Borough Council to ensure that we all receive value for money for every penny of council tax we pay.
"My aim is to represent the interests of the people of Hartlepool to the best of my abilities and ensure wherever possible that council tax payers receive true value for money with all amenities and services provided by Hartlepool Borough Council." Over the years Mr Gillespie has made a number of TV and radio appearances including GMTV, BBC 1 Homes under the Hammer, BBC Working Lunch and BBC Radio 2 Chris Evans Show.
He has also written articles for a number of trade publications.
